A year ago today I started Tamoxifen, a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) that blocks the receptors in breast cells so that they don’t get lit up into cancer. Today, because I’ve now been thrown into menopause, I started Aromasin, an AI (Aromatase Inhibitor) that stops the production of oestrogen. After the Big Meno hormones are still raging, kinda: the hormone aromatase changes the hormone androgen into the hormone oestrogen. Because this can stimulate the growth of hormone positive breast cancer, it needs to be stopped/inhibited/ deaded. AIs can bring some brutal, life-affecting side-effects but I’m not lingering over them. As with all my treatments, I’ll just see how I go. . Bring on the IN-HIB-IT-OR!! .
